The Baby Face Pops!
Oh how much has changed my dear friends. Time does fly when you are a busy little bee like I've been during these past years. I moved out of my mom's house, bought a new place, got engaged, got married....and no, not having kids any time soon. Instead I'll keep to making baby faces that everyone can enjoy eating instead of babysitting :)
So the only thing that remains the same is my passion for food; Both making it and eating it. With all the craziness of moving out, fixing up our place, planning a destination wedding in 11 months, and just work and life, the time to post my culinary adventures has become limited. Also, it's so much more quicker in todays world to just post a quick snap shot on Istagram. Oh, what that IG has done to us. Making us (really, just me) lazy. Well, here's what I have been up to: Cake Pops! Here's a few images of these latest little cute sensations that can be made to match the theme of any events...I will share the story of how I got into this new venture of mine on my next post, along with more cake pops. Enjoy!

Roberta's in Brooklyn
Photos by Flickr
Though Roberta's façade is not exactly an appealing or welcoming one, the inside of this shack looking place is completely the opposite. I honestly found Roberta's by mistake. Wednesday night on our way to sketching naked models, we decided to grab a bite before the 3 hour session at 3rdward in Brooklyn. I googled Restaurants nearby, and Roberta's came up as the closest one.
The simple decor and natural woods made me feel relaxed and at home as soon as I walked in. The fresh aroma coming from the wood-burning oven was enough to allure us into sitting down and staying longer than expected. We each ordered a pie, and some beers in jelly jars (YES JELLY JARS!) and we were not disappointed! I walked around the place, and went outside to the patio and noticed that in another small brick space, a live radio show was taking place, Heritage Radio Network. I also noticed they grow their own fresh herbs, cool!
Though in my opinion, the clientele and staff members tried a little too hard to pull off the artistic "I'm cool and don't care" look, this place is for shizzz a place to check out!

Have a Crumbs Cupcake! and Nothing else.....
At work we have a Crumbs Birthday tradition. If it's your Birthday, we go out and buy Crumbs cupcakes for everyone. How exciting! right? Not so exciting though when we googled the calories in ONE cupcake! TheDailyPlate.com reports that a Red Velvet Crumbs cupcake has 780 calories! That's 19 points for those of you who follow Weight Watchers (like my boss). This should not come as much of a shock since all fast food chains in NYC by law are supposed to post calories for every dish they serve. Though I know for a fact that they do have calories posted in their STORES, I did not find any nutritional facts on the Crumbs website. Isn't that misleading and illegal for those who order online? I'm just saying.
Anyway...it's my co-workers Birthday today, so I'm off to have a cupcake :)

Sushi Feast
Photos by: Jonathan Tineo
I know what you're thinking. Sushi is one of those things that is better left to the professionals. I love sushi, and I've been flirting with the idea of making them at home for a long time. I did not dare though ruin the image of good sushi, so I never had the ovaries to try it. I got a Vegetarian cookbook for Christmas, and the first random page I opened it to was to a Sushi recipe! After a long time of shying away from it, I knew I had to try it. I was determined.
I went to H SuperMart (Asian Market) and got the tools necessary to make the perfect sushi. I must have watched 10 different YouTube videos on how to roll sushi until I felt confident enough to try it 2 days later. The first time, I made shrimp sushi. I'll be honest, it was not perfect, but it was tasty and very close to the authentic version.
The second time (yesterday), it was a hit! I made spicy (and by spicy I mean the HOTTEST sauce ever made) tuna rolls, fresh tuna rolls, and shrimp rolls. It was a Sushi Feast!
I guess the second time around I felt more confident and got the hang of the rolling mat, which if not done correctly can make sushi loose and messy.
Though I'm not Japanese, I feel pretty good about saying I've mastered one of their dishes, and also one of my favorites :)
